The Power of Faith in Recovery

Watching your child grow up has some exciting milestones.  Parents go nuts over the littlest things.  Things like their first smile, first words, first steps, first birthday, first sleeping through the night, and of course their first time to go potty.  It fills them with joy and excitement and these days everything is captured on their smartphones and posted for all the world to see.

When our first son was being potty trained, he was sitting on the little white child toilet trying to poop and the phone rings.  His mom goes to answer it because in those days phones hung on the wall and you had to go answer it where it was.  I guess we could have called them “unmobile phones” but who would have ever thought you would have it in your pocket.  Anyway, she answers the phone and comes back and Nate is standing by the little toilet but the bowl is empty.  Then Mona looks and on the top of the tank of the real toilet was his turd.  He was so proud of it that he wanted to save it so he placed it there.  Anyway, I digress.

What do you think gets God our Father excited?  What is it about us and our growing up into mature believers that bring a smile to His heart?  The answer is simple.  It is FAITH.

It is when we act upon something we know to be true about God or believe what He has told us to do and do it.  God LOVES that!  The Bible is filled with stories about how much God loves people having the faith to believe that He is God and do what He tells them to do. However, sometimes He will take moments and test our faith. Probably no one more so than Abram.

Abram, at the age of 75, was told by God to leave his family and country ago go for a 400-mile walk to a land he knew nothing about.  God tells him that he is going to have as many descendants as the stars in the sky.  However, up until he is about one hundred years Sarai, his wife, was still barren.  Then they have a son and when Isaac was just a boy God tells Abraham to sacrifice him and make his body a burnt offering.

Without a moment’s hesitation or even an argument with God Abraham gets right to the point of having the blade of the knife against his boy’s neck, intent on cutting his artery and burning his body when the angel of the Lord stops him and says;

By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies. “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”  Genesis 22:16-18

God loves it when we live by FAITH.  In fact, there are three places in the New Testament where we read;

“The righteous shall live by faith.”

Now let’s bring it down to you.  Do you believe that God can heal your sexual brokenness?  I know you have prayed that many times and that prayer has not been answered.  There could be a dozen reasons for that.  However, right now do you believe it is possible.  Do you have the “FAITH MINDSET” that God wants you to walk in sexual purity and that HE can make that happen in your life?

I am going to get more into this because the Lord is revealing to me how important this really is.  I am in my 6th year of writing these emails 6 days a week and I have never really thought of this before nor how important it really is.  And here is another first.  I have homework for you.  Before you read tomorrows, email take some time tonight before you go to sleep and read these two passages.  Genesis 22 and Hebrews 11.
