How Good is Your Helmet?

There is so much good theology in Romans 1-8 that many regard it as perhaps the most important book of the Bible regarding understanding our salvation.  And if putting on the “helmet of our salvation” is part of our daily practice, as it should be, then how good in your helmet?

Is it like this …

or more like this …

… if you are even putting one on.

However, Paul gives us some very important advice later in Romans 15:1-6.  He tells his readers that those who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those who are without strength and not just care for ourselves. Which is exactly what 180 is all about, believers who are growing in their recovery helping other believers who are just beginning.

Right after that, we read …

“For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We have been talking about how faith is critical to helping us recover and the way we build our faith is by knowing the stories of the bible where God responds to people’s faith and even does the miraculous.  Stories like Daniel in the lion’s den, David, and Goliath, and Joseph sold into slavery and imprisoned for 2 years.

You know it is ok to just read these stories on their own instead of using a reading the bible through in a year program.  There are plenty of websites that will help you find them like;

Reading these stories helps us to have faith in our battle.  We need this because the battle we must face is a fierce one.  We have our sinful nature within us that we have been using for years if not decades to feed our lusts.  We live in a fallen world where every kind of sexual material is available to us within seconds, and we do not battle against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of darkness.

So, here is my recommendation of the day for you.  Keep a bible next to your bed and when you go to bed read one of the great stories of the bible before going to sleep.  This will show you how God has intervened in people’s lives and helped them out of some very dire circumstances.  Reading this will help you believe that He wants to help you in your recovery.

Remember God calls us to live a holy life and we need a little faith to help that happen.
