Have You Ever Been To _____________?

When someone has been to a great place that they really enjoyed, they might ask you if you have ever been to that place.  Like; “Have you ever been to Disneyland?”  Then they want to tell you all about it and what it was like for them.  This was back when people actually talked with one another face to face.

Today we don’t have to talk with anyone just post it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and the dozen other places on social media.  Look if you cannot describe it to me in 140 characters or less then I am too busy and moving on to the next post.  Could we invent any other ways where we can continue to be isolated and yet so public?  To be so outwardly great but inwardly a wreck?

These people are not your friends.  Many are just voyeurs who hope you post something sensual to feed what they are really looking for and that is something to lust over. I am sure that is not true of everyone but for those who struggle with sexual addiction social media is just another way to hook up.

However, let me tell you about a place that I love to go.  I cannot post any pictures of it because it does not have a physical location.  You cannot walk, run, drive or fly there and there is no public transportation system.  However, you can be there in an instant and it is by far the best place that I have ever been.  I cannot describe to you what it looks like because it is not a place you can see.

I guess you could imagine some surroundings but I don’t because it is not a place I see but it is a place I sense. Let me introduce you to this place from Psalm 46:10;

Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

The place is being still in the presence of my Father and my Lord.  This is where I go to meditate instead of medicate.  And I am telling you … and if I must, I will shout it out to you; “This place is awesome!!!”  There is peace and quiet.  Worry seems to drift away as I come into His presence and sit still, because sitting still has never been easy for me.

I can still remember my dad saying to me in a harsh tone; “Can’t you just sit still?”  And the answer, which I did not know at the time was; “No I cannot sit still because I have Tourette’s Syndrome.”  My body twitches. Not a lot and not all the time but when I am wanting to sit and watch TV and just relax these electrical impulses jump the resistors in my nervous system and something moves.  I have a very mild case of it but sitting still was not an option for me when I was in my teens. (By the way please put on my tombstone “Finally Still.”)

Why is being in God’s presence such a great place where we can be still?  It comes from knowing that HE is God … that He IS God … that He is GOD!  Even more wonderful is that He is my FATHER who has loved me since before creation and His unconditional love goes on FOREVER.  He is in control.  He has my back, my front and both of my sides.  He has the ground on which I stand and the sky above my head.

“But you, Lord, are a shield around me,

my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”

When you were a kid did your mom or dad or grandma or grandpa ever put their hand under your chin and say; “Let me get a good look at you.”

Do you have this time with your Father?  It is the most wonderful place you can be and you can be there anywhere and at any time. You can take a deep breath or two and remember that He is in control. Lift your head up and see His power and His grace.  We are His children and He loves us unconditionally and unendingly.

In fact, you do not have to go there you are already there because He is with you always!
